Woah! Where did my summer go? Who stole it away? And when did they steal it? It was only yesterday that I stepped into the Montrose Airport to greet my family after three months of living in Naples without them, holy smokes! What happened?
Well, I have to say that there have been many adventures this summer. Canoing, river rafting, hiking, camping, weeding, working, staining, and piano playing are just a few of them. But, since this is the end of my summer, I'm going to tell you about my last adventure.
So it was a beautiful Tuesday, and Hannah and I were contemplating making one last adventure for ourselves. Dad had informed us that his friend Tom Smith (a professor at BYU) and one of his students were going up to Utah to retrieve a lost camera by a bear den. We had received an email giving us very loose directions to a 'Three Canyons B&B' which I'm pretty sure is a figment of someones imagination. At about 6 o clock, after a long day of packing and worrying, we heard that YSA family home evening was canceled, so we decided to take the opportunity and head out. We packed our bags, got one page of the map (our printer refused to print more) and finally got going at about 7 o clock.
Our destination was about 10 miles across the boarder of Utah. As we got off the highway and onto those lovely dirt roads that bounce you out of your seats, we started to get nervous. By that time it was dark and we hadn't heard back from Tom Smith, but we pushed forward anyways and continued trying to read the maps. As we continued our journey ghostly, abandoned ranch houses appeared out of nowhere, and roads popped up where they shouldn't have been. Finally when we arrived to what we thought was the Three Canyons B&B to our surprise the house was nothing but an oil drill. No one was there, and it was apparent that no one had been there for a while from our lone tracks on the road.
As we got out of the car to debate on which road to take, a strange noise met our ears. It was... a sneeze. A BIG sneeze. We had our flashlights out and pointed it the general direction of the noise. But whoever the owner of the sneeze was did not care to show themselves. So, as the sneezes kept on coming, neither one of us mentioned the word 'bear', but we quickly agreed to continue away from the sneezing noises.
So pretty soon we decided that it was time to camp. We opened up all the windows and the truck and slept in the car. Yes, we are chickens, you don't need to tell us that.
We woke up the next morning with aching backs and hungry bellies. We hiked up one of the canyons and ate our breakfast on a rock overlooking some canyons. Nature is so much prettier when you can actually see it! We spent the rest of the day hiking through the riverbeds and up the ridges. It was a great day! Oh, and we left a note on our car that said 'Honk if you're Tom Smith'. We still don't know what happened to Tom, but he never showed up. We just hope he wasn't eaten by a bear :)

hahaha! I love it! You are not chickens...you are smart. I would have slept in the truck too. Actually, I would have turned the truck around, headed back down the canyon, and booked a night at the Canyon's Hotel and soaked away my scaredness in the hot tub. :)
